Alerta de Sismo is a mobile application developed by the Ministry of Environment of El Salvador designed to notify users about seismic events that could potentially be felt. The application aims to provide early warnings, affording users the opportunity to take protective actions.

The effectiveness of the app is limited to distances between approximately 50 to 150 kilometers from the seismic event's epicenter. Notifications are less feasible within closer ranges, and while tremors may be felt further away, they typically do not result in significant damage warranting an alert.

This free application serves as a complementary service to the information dissemination efforts conducted by MARN (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales) in El Salvador. It operates through a fully automated system that integrates various instruments and algorithms, though it is important to note its susceptibility to technical failures.

The app categorizes alerts into three levels: Red, Orange, and Green.

• Red Alert: Indicates that the tremor could be felt with a modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (MMI) of V or higher, granting users a few seconds to take protective measures. This alert is communicated via voice command and vibration.
• Orange Alert: Suggests that the earthquake may be felt with an intensity between III and V. Users are notified through sound and vibration.
• Green Alert: Signifies that the tremor is likely to have an intensity of less than III, with notifications given silently.

Additionally, users have the option to report their experiences or sensations during each seismic event, further contributing to the understanding of these occurrences.
